BDP's Ford to Co-chair Key AAEI Committee
PHILADELPHIA, Pa., June 17, 2013 -- Michael J. Ford, vice president of regulatory compliance and quality for global logistics firm, BDP International, has been appointed to a one-year term as co-chair of the American Association of Exporters and Importers (AAEI) Export Compliance and Facilitation Committee (ECFC).
AAEI committees respond to specific global trade concerns, bringing needed information to members and members' views to the attention of key policymakers and administrators. Members' common concerns and potential areas of difficulty are addressed through the committee framework. The ECFC focuses on streamlining U.S. export controls and unilateral sanctions programs and reducing foreign barriers to U.S. exports.
Among the issues AAEI addresses for conducting global trade in compliance with U.S. and international laws are tariff clarification, valuation, country of origin/marking, free trade agreements and export controls. Trade facilitation activities include programs and tools that lower transaction costs for international trade, including modernizing and simplifying customs procedures, duty collection and other trade measures.
Ford brings to the committee extensive experience and expertise in governmental issues and an increasingly complex global regulatory environment. For the past 16 years, he has been working with U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the Department of Commerce/Census Bureau on automation of export/import programs. He also serves as co-chair for trade on the Export Committee developing Customs' ACE system, and is a former member of its Commercial Operations Advisory Council (COAC).
